Our popular skylink route linking Derby, Loughborough and Leicester with East Midlands Airport is set to climb to new heights of comfort and frequency thanks to a £1.5 million investment by Kinchbus.

We have added eight top-spec Mercedes buses to our refurbished skylink fleet, enabling the introduction of a new timetable that will see buses running every 20 minutes from Monday through to Saturday and every half hour on Sundays.

Tom Morgan, our General Manager, explained: “skylink has proved a huge hit with customers travelling to the airport to catch a flight to whisk them away for a holiday or business trip.

“Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it also provides a quick and convenient service for people in Loughborough who need to travel to and from the two key East Midlands cities of Derby and Leicester.

“Thanks to this latest investment by Kinchbus, they can enjoy a more comfortable trip, regardless of whether they are embarking on the first leg of a journey to the sun or simply heading off on a shopping trip.”

The new buses boast a range of luxurious features, including fast and free 4G Wi-Fi and charging points for phones, tablets and laptops. They also include additional luggage racks for anyone who needs to stow away their holiday or shopping bags, whilst double-glazing and comfy seats ensure a relaxed journey.

“On our new buses, customers don’t need to be upgraded at check-in to feel they are travelling first class!” Tom added.

The good people of Leicester got a sneak preview of the new Mercedes buses for skylink at a launch party on Saturday 27 September. Our very own skylink ‘cabin crew’ (our skylink driver Debs and admin assistant Heather) joined Kaptain Kinch to introduce the improved service and issue free taster tickets to the new skylink, as well as other goodies and commemorative cakes. Over a thousand people joined us for this busy and fun day – thanks if you were one of them!

At the event, we also celebrated with Jet2holidays – as the winner of our skylink summer holiday was announced. The lucky winner was Ben Ryder of Derby – who is doing the honourable thing of taking him and his mum off on an exclusive Jet2holidays holiday next March! Congratulations, and have a fab time, Ben.
