From 1st January 2025 a single bus journey will cost no more than £3.
We have put together this handy list of FAQs that will tell you everything you need to know about the Government led scheme.
What is the £3 fare cap scheme?
The Bus Fare Cap Grant scheme is a government funded scheme being introduced on most single fares on bus journeys across England (outside London) from 1st January 2025. This means that the cost of a single ticket will be capped at a maximum of £3 on eligible routes for the duration of the scheme.
The scheme has been launched by Department for Transport (DfT) to help people with the cost of travelling to work, education, medical treatment and shopping over the winter months, helping to ease the pressures from the rising cost of living. It will also encourage more people to make local journeys by bus, helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Where can I use the £3 single fare?
On all Kinchbus services excluding nightbus fares.
What does cap mean?
Cap means that’s the maximum amount you’ll pay for a single ticket on eligible routes.
My ticket costs less than £3 already, will I pay more?
If your ticket already costs less than £3, it will remain at its current price.
Can I continue to use my concessionary pass during this time?
Yes, you can continue to use your bus pass at the normal times.
Are night journeys included in the scheme?

Is there a further discount for mango?
No, mango is already a discounted product, however the £2 cap will automatically apply to the current mango fares.
I currently have a Kinchkard, will this still be the best option for me?
We would recommend checking your travel plans, as these tickets offer some of our highest discounts so may still be the best option for you.
I have a Kinchkard and think the capped fares will be the best option, can you freeze my card/cancel the card and if so, how do you work out the refunds??
Unfortunately we will not be freezing any cards. For any part refunds we calculate the refund amount based on usage. Please contact your HR team for super commuter pass holders or our Customer Services team on talk@trentbarton.co.uk or use our social media channels @trentbartonland to get in touch.
Are the mango caps the same as currently?
